Following its sponsorship of the Men’s World Ice Hockey Championship in Russia (2007) and Canada (2008), the company will sponsor the “IIHF World Championship” (IIHF = International Ice Hockey Federation) for the third time, which will be held from April 24 – May 10, 2009 in Switzerland. Henkel’s sponsoring of this major sporting event is in line with its corporate strategy of sponsoring top class, international events. The sponsorship of the IIHF World Championship in Switzerland encompasses the advertising promotion in the stadiums of the two host cities, Bern and Zurich. Moreover, in the run-up to the IIHF championship matches, the company will present its product brands Persil (detergents) and Ceresit (construction technology). A total of 16 national teams in four groups will compete against each other at the 73rd IIHF World Championship, playing 56 matches to win the coveted 2009 IIHF world championship title. 300,000 fans are expected to attend this mega event, which is expected to attract 800 million TV viewers, making this 2009 IIHF world championship the largest sporting event in Switzerland in 2009. |
